Ways to waste money

I think it's a well known fact that the word that usually precedes "college student" is poor. This is naturally due to the fact that thousands upon thousands of dollars are spent per semester on tuition, books, room and board, food, and OF COURSE you need to have money to go to movies, dinner with roommates, or even Idaho Falls to the closest Starbucks. Receiving a minute amount of money from (and I cringe typing this) my parents, we have to also remember other things that our necessities as human beings, one being toilet paper.
Well, by the end of the month, when our monetary reservoirs are dry as a bone and we have resorted to eating from the mcdonalds dollar menu, I guess my roommates and I forgot that toilet paper was something that was close to impossible to live without.
This put us in a pretty crappy predicament (pun intended) and had to run to Walmart. Upon arriving at our blessed little Rexburg Wally World we found that bathroom tissue, to our dismay, was a rather expensive item (the word "expensive" is used in comparison to how much money we actually have per month) so much so that our debate on the better deal was becoming too extensive... Finally Abby thought of the bright idea to just by many packs of the 4 roll, 1-ply tissue that were conveniently 68 cents each.
Well, as great of an idea as that sounds, this event took place last night... And as of 8:00 this morning, 2 of the 16 rolls of 68 cent 1-ply toilet paper have been disposed of.

The moral of this story? I don't know... But I felt like sharing the story of a poor college student who wasted $3.00 on toilet paper that will be gone by Thursday evening...

That's all for now folks!

Firsts

Yeah... I'm talking about first times

Don't get me wrong, this is not the 'first time' you have in mind -.- I'm talking about the scary steps you take on your own.  First to graduate high school. First to leave the house. First to go to college. That's me, and you better believe one day ill be the first to say I did it and I'm proud of myself. It's not easy, but it is definitely worth it.
Sometimes I want to hop on the first flight out of here and get myself back to my sunny California where I can wear my sandals all day and actually show my ankles. I want to go to the place where I can jump into my bed and forget the world and all the responsibilities that come with growing up. I want the joy of hearing my mom in the kitchen cooking for me and knowing she'll call me when it's ready. I want home.
What makes me stay? How can I overlook what I WANT and focus on what I NEED? Well I think the only answer to that is God. I crave success, and have a burning desire to be accomplished, but I never knew it would be this hard to gain it. Good thing I also have a strong enough testimony of God's love for me to know he's the only reason I haven't fallen apart. And good things I made awesome crazy friends who keep me busy and never let me have a dull moment.
Truth is i never thought about what it's like to be on my own, and that is the scariest first anyone will encounter. Being on your own for the first time. For some time we cannot wait to experience that freedom, and we are anxious to make our own choices; then when we finally do we're scared and we don't want it anymore.
What can we do? Well it's never too late for ANOTHER FIRST. The first time we put our entire faith in the Lord. The first time we realize we need to find out who we are and where we are going. The first time we really find ourselves. Its a scary world filled of firsts, but we just gotta have faith and trust in our first. Heavenly Father. Reach up, he'll take your had. Forever.

Vent Sesh numero uno

Rylee told me to blog, so here I am, and here I'll stay.
I have never been one of those people who has had even the littlest desire to blog, but I agreed at gun point to this (ha ha, just kidding) BUT I digress. I suppose since I deleted my twitter, this will be the replacement to my ever-so strong addiction to venting profusely via the internet.

So, Rexburg, Idaho. Oh, sweet, sweet Rexburg. It's definitely a little bit off the beaten path-- which, don't get me wrong, isn't a bad thing-- but it definitely lacks the small creature comforts of Tennessee. I miss being acres away from my neighbors, having a backyard (or ANY yard honestly) and my plethora of farm animals that roam around our place. Although Rexburg is beautiful and close to many different things I'll miss, such as the beautiful Teton mountains and the fact that I'm less than two (2) hours away from Yellowstone National Park (uh duh, there's buffalo), there are many things about Rexburg that will be happily left behind come 2am on April 12th when I hop my happy, but probably tired butt on the Salt Lake Express. Things like below freezing temperatures, and lofted TWIN SIZE beds, and -- I think this is the most important, and I capitalize for emphasis-- NEIGHBORS UPSTAIRS WHO STOMP AROUND LIKE OGRES ALL NIGHT. Can we be honest here? How have I dealt with this for a little over two months without blowin' a gasket...?
*2 am* *finally getting to sleep after a long night of talking to Rylee and Abby...and probably Kareena to procrastinate my homework. Then rushing through my homework*
Ahh, finally, my head finally hits my pillow....and without fail, the ogres hit the floor.
What in the actual could they be doing up there at 2:00 in the morning? It makes me think of the times when I was little and my sisters and I would jump off our beds, couches, and basically anything that was elevated, with a pillow case to see if it would act as a parachute. Long story short: it never worked.
Either way, whatever our lovely, annoying ogre neighbors are doing upstairs at ungodly hours of the night will be anything but a bittersweet goodbye come the end of the semester. I pray to God that my neighbors in my apartment on my mission are never like that.

Sincerely,
Special K

Same Love, Different Religion

You're completely, and madly in love with this boy and he is crazy for you back. You never fail to say "I love you" every 5 minutes; they're constantly on your mind and nothing else matters; you catch yourself at random depressing moments missing them so much; and you just count the days until you guys are together again, instead of doing something productive.

I am Mormon, and I am in love with Jared, and he is Catholic.

Our relationship happened out of nowhere-- he became someone I just admired from afar because of how well he dressed to one of the most important person in my life with just a few intellectual conversations and cups of herbal tea and coffee. We love every single, little, perfect imperfection about each other and we accept the weird mannerisms we have. I'd like to say that we're the perfect couple, to be honest. I'd also like to say that I want to marry him too-- that's how serious I am about this boy; 18 and already in love with someone enough that I want to spend the rest of my life with them.

The difference in our religions is difficult, but it does not change how much I love him, in fact, it makes me love him even more. It makes me want to give him the happiness’s that truly make me happy-- the kind of love that he shows me, and the only true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jared is the most amazing guy in the world, and he deserves all the happiness and love this world has to offer. He deserves to attain the truthfulness of the Gospel and the opportunity to be with his family forever. He deserves to feel the undying mercy that Heavenly Father privileges us and the hopeful grace that Jesus Christ showers us with. He deserves to know that when we do get married, it's not "'til death do us part," it is forever, always in all eternity.

The love we have for each other is the same. We argue constantly on who loves who the most, and we stay stubborn and firm in saying "I love you more." But the beliefs we have spiritually are different, but not unsettling. Time and Heavenly Father will help me educate the love of my life about the eternal happiness he is able to obtain. A conversion is not a promise, but the fact that he knows about the Gospel, the thing that makes me the most happy besides the love he has for me, is a start and maybe, you never know-- we'll be sealed in the Temple, for time and all eternity.

I am Mormon and I am in love with Jared, and he is Catholic.

Man Crush Monday

Why did I get twitter?
To stalk One Direction, but more importantly Harry Styles.
What else would I use it for!

Why did I get pintrest?
For the food board of course!

Why did I make an Instagram account?
Because everyone else got one!

I guess what I am trying to say is social media doesn’t mean I’m social.  But it does mean that I know what all five members of One Direction are up to, I can follow any recipe like a beast, and I always know who who’s man crush every Monday!

Starbucks = My Grades

A Sour Apple Frappuccino is all I need to turn my frown upside down.

It seems that the longer I am away from home the hungrier I become for the city. I miss the smells of cultures mixing as the busy sounds of life rise up from the street. Don't get me wrong I love being able to sleep without the constant hum of traffic and I adore the residents of Rexburg, Idaho who would gladly do anything for someone in need, but as the semester nears it's end I have begun to crave the small trips we take to Idaho Falls (IF).

In IF they have a Wal-Mart with produce! And restaurants and a mall but most important they have a Starbucks! That brings me to the title of this post. Without these trips to Idaho Falls for study breaks at Starbucks I would be in hole. A hole filled with late nights spent watching paint dry as I attempt to gather motivation to do my work. Starbucks has become my motivation.

In my room the chores that occupy most peoples lives become my means of procrastination. What I have a paper due in an hour? Must be time to vacuum the apartment. I am supposed to be studying for a midterm. Time to alphabetize my nail polishes. I have a speech tomorrow. Let’s rearrange my furniture.

The truth is if you give me a delicious drink, a hot croissant, and a cafĂ© environment I can accomplish anything.  So here is my ode to Starbucks. Thank you for existing because without you my grades would also be non-existent.
Heres us....

& Kareena
